We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 6 hours and 58 minutes we finished filming all six episodes! That’s right, from Episode 40-45. That is more episodes filmed at one time that we have ever done. We even filmed behind the scenes footage for the first time on The 7 O’Clock News. Hopefully that video will be up soon. But don’t think you will have to wait til these episodes to come out to see stuff from tonight’s epic filming session. Here are the pictures! The pictures are behind the scenes images from all of the upcoming episodes. Look for the pictures where I am wearing a hat, headphones, and glasses. That’s one of the new main characters on the show who you will meet in episode 41. But more about him later. I’m just glad that everything went smoothly and while our style of filming nay have been very random and scattered at times, I think we got some of the best footage we ever have in the history of The 7 O’Clock News! Well I’m exhausted so I’m going to bed. Enjoy the many pictures!

New Episodes on the Way!

Hey everyone,

Just thought I would bring you up to speed on the latest stuff happening behind the scenes on The 7 O’Clock News. As I am writing this I just finished filming scenes for Episode 40 and 41 and there is still one more scene left to film for Episode 39. Hopefully that episode will be out before Christmas. Tomorrow I plan to write 2 or 3 more episodes and then Wednesday will be a VERY long filming day. It will be the most filming we will have ever done in the history of The 7 O’Clock News. On Wednesday we will finish filming everything for 6 different episodes simultaneously. But for now, I am taking it easy after filming for 3 hours and I am watching playback from the footage that was filmed tonight.. here’s a picture. I’ll post an update Wednesday night after the most epic day of filming of all time.

Minutes ago an earthquake was felt at The 7 O’Clock News studios in Columbus, OH.

The earthquake originated as a 5.9 in DC and was felt as far as New York and North Carolina.

It took 6 hours of intense editing and scrutinizing every little detail but at 2AM I finished Episode 35! Hopefully the episode will be out in the VERY near future. This means that there is one more kinda big reveal that needs to happen before the episode goes live. And that is revealing our new logo. I am working on getting it posted here in a little bit so make sure to check back soon to see the new logo. We figured its probably a good idea to show the new logo before we completely redesign the site. That way you know that you are still in the right place. Stay tuned!

Don’t you just love it when things go exactly or better than you planned? Well tonight we had one of those experiences. So last night we finished the second half of the set, which is the green screen half, and tonight we filmed the first scene using the new green screen set with it’s back lighting and fancy doohickeys and the footage we got from it looks incredible just on its own! No joke, if you are someone just getting started with video making and want to know a good way to do green screening, this is the way to go! Ok, I have to go calm down now. Production Begins!

Hey everyone!

Tonight marked the beginning of filming of new episodes! Tonight we filmed scenes with Andy and Shades on the set for two episodes, 35 and 37, as I am writing this I am going back and looking at the footage that we shot and first impressions are that it looks great! Still gonna work on doing some more filming tonight and possibly some more writing tonight and starting to get a bunch of new footage so that we can release alot of new episodes back to back. Almost Done

Hey everyone!

I have good news! The set is almost finished! I have spent the last 2 days painting and staining and all of that fun stuff and I just finished the backdrop! It looks incredible! All I have left to do is just put a clear finish on the main piece and then put the two frames on wheels and it will be done! Now eventually we will have 2 halves for the set, but right now due to cost and time, we will have one incredible looking piece ready to go while I work on the second one which could be ready anytime from a week to a month. It will depend on time constraints I guess. That’s all for now. Just thought I’d post another progress update especially after missing one yesterday. Stay cool.

Wednesday Update

Hey everyone!

Time for today’s progress update. Well, tonight I have gotten quite alot done. I got the first of two front panels all put together then as I am writing this am in the middle of putting primer on what will eventually become the background for the set. I did film a short video update tonight that I hope to have online within a day or two. Tomorrow I am going to look at getting the paints and stain that I will need to finish this thing up before finally putting all of the pieces together and figuring out the lighting and whatnot. Hopefully by this time next week we will be filming new episodes! Well, one can hope right? Stay cool peeps!

New Set Update

Hello again everyone!

Just thought that I would make a quick post before going to bed tonight and give you an update on how things are going behind the scenes with building the new set. Today I went and picked up all of the materials I need for HALF of the set and I have been working on putting that together tonight. Two of the four frames have been built and built the wheels that the frame will sit on. Tomorrow morning I hope to be able to go to the store to look at paint… gonna have to do alot of painting this week. But I what I can say is that I am just glad that this thing is finally becoming a reality! It is something that we have wanted for years but have never been able to do until now. Well that’s all for now. Check back every once in a while for more progress updates. I’m gonna try my best to keep everyone up to date. Stay cool.

Hey everyone!

It’s been a couple days since the last post and I am glad to report that things are moving along well. Here’s where we stand as of right now. There are 3 awesome new scripts that are ready to go. But we can’t start filming yet. Why is that you ask? Because as we speak, I am in the process of making an actual set for The 7 O’Clock News! That’s the big news! For the first time in almost five years The 7 O’Clock News will have a legitimate set. I have spent the past several days drawing up a design for it, going to the hardware store and looking at different materials to use for the set, marking out the footprint in the studio etc. It is going to take the show to whole new levels of awesome… or not.. guess it all really comes down to the writing. Tomorrow I am going to go and pick up all of the material to finally start building this thing. OH! and before I forget! other big news! Say goodbye to the logo that you have come to know. I have also created a new logo for the show and I gotta say, it looks pretty cool. I can’t wait til everything is put together and ready to go so that you can all can see all of the awesome new things that we are working on! Til then… stay cool.

Hey everyone!

It’s been a LONG time since there have been any new episodes of The 7 O’Clock News but that is all about to change. Within the past week there have been some things starting to take form behind the scenes. It may still be a little while before the new episodes are online, we still have to figure out those details. But what I can say is that when the show return later this summer, it is going to be quite different. A reboot of sorts. There are still alot of details to be sorted out but as of right now there are 3 new scripts that have been written and possibly new sets… the only thing I can say now is stay tuned!

It’s almost here! Episode 33 premieres tomorrow! I finished post production on the episode last night and it is all ready to go. We’ve had so many episodes in production lately that it has been difficult at times to remember what episode I am working on, but now all that is left to do is finish filming episode 34, but at this point I am not sure exactly when it will be released. Right now I am looking at either a December 14th or December 21st release date. I guess it all matters on how quickly production wraps and how quickly I am able to get the episode through post production. But all of that aside, make sure to check back tomorrow for episode 33!

Episode 32 Production Update

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I spent my weekend working on episode 32, which is tenetively going to be released on Thanksgiving day. As of right now about half of the episode has been filmed and right now I believe that the plan is to film the rest tomorrow. But the new episodes don’t stop there! I finished the script for episode 33 last week and depending on how filming goes tomorrow, we may film some of episode 33 too. Wish I could say the same for episode 34 but… I kind of have to still write that one first, but don’t worry, it’s on my to do list. Check back for more updates.

Hey everyone,

I bring good news! There will be 4 new episodes before the year is over! The thanksgiving episode is coming soon, then we have a two-part christmas episode planned and to top it all off, we also have a new year’s episode in the works! I just finished the script for the thanksgiving episode yesterday, also yesterday we pitched the christmas and new years episodes and it looks like we are going ahead with both. It’s exciting! But with all of these great ideas it means that there is alot of writing in my future so I should probably be getting to that. Check back for more updates!

I just put the finishing touches on the script for Episode 32, aka, the thanksgiving episode. Production is gonna be starting soon and the episode will either be out the Tuesday before or the Tuesday after thanksgiving, right now its a little too soon to know exactly when the episode will be out. But I can promise that is gonna be one of the best episodes we’ve had this year. I know, one of the best episodes? Yes, of the three episodes released this year, Episode 32 is going to be the best! Spiderman 4 is a Reboot? WHAT?

Spiderman 4 was scrapped and it’s going to be a reboot of the origins of Peter Parker. http://www.deadline.com/2010/01/urgent-spider-man-4-scrapped-as-is-raimi-and-cast-out-franchise-reboot-planned/

Isn’t that what Spiderman 1 was? Plus, Toby Maguire won’t be in it. That’s like doing a SuperBug reboot of Episode 4 and replacing SuperBug’s actor, Jonathan Bloom, with Tom Cruise–maybe that’s not a bad replacement. ANYWAY, we are unsure about the new Spiderman 4 plans. We will be watching them closely.

SuperBug’s Plot and LOST

Collin and I have finished the final episode of LOST and…we did not like how it ended. We think the creators didn’t know where they were going and didn’t know how to finish up all of the plot holes.

We want you, the viewer, to know that SuperBug WON’T go that route. We DO know where the plot of SuperBug is going. We write the script for each episode before we film, but we have the general plot outline mostly figured out. If/when we do end the series, we promise you that we will watch EVERY episode and look for ANY lose ends and explain them. The LOST writers could have AT LEAST done that! The show may be hard to follow, but we think it does make sense. Do keep in mind though, we do this strictly for fun and thus it’s sometimes an experiment. We hope you enjoy the show and if you have any suggestions, please let us know.

We got asked by Iron Man 2 viewers (Actually, no we didn’t. I just left Iron Man 2, which rocked, and came up with questions people would ask us if we were popular) and we decided to answer them.

Question 1: When will there be cool aerial shots of SuperBug
- Answer: Umm, we don’t have the equipment or the budget to do this.
Question 2: When will SuperBug get a cool suit?
- Answer: Umm, SuperBug is a ladybug and DOES NOT need a suit.
Question 3: When will EvilCo become like Stark Industries?
- Answer: OK, who’s picking the questions—what? Oh yeah, that’s right, it’s me!
Question 4: Why was Rhodes replaced in Iron Man 2?
- Answer: I don’t know.
Question 5: Will SuperBug ever have a cool mission control person like the Jarvis computer?
- Answer: Stay tuned!

It is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since production of the show was started up again… we’ve been at it since March of last year… constantly coming up with new ideas and characters… but now we are focusing on our next 5 episodes. Essential Tool: SmartSound SonicFire Pro 5

I’m not being paid to write this, I’m writing this because I love these essential tools. I am not getting compensated at all and only do this to share with the world.

One of the most essential tools to us is SmartSound SonicFire Pro 5. I used this program in Pinnacle Studio and you can see it in earlier 7 O’Clock News episodes. I also have used it in some of my ads and videos. It is even used for the opening to The 7 O’Clock News. We are beginning to use it for even more of our projects. This tool is amazing and I’ll explain why.

Say your producing video, audio, or any other type of multimedia. You finish your project and want to add a little spice and flavor. You find a piece of music, but it’s too long or it’s too short. Or the instruments are too noisy during a piece of dialogue. With SmartSound you can find a piece of music and then trim it to the exact time of your clip. The music then rearranges your music’s composition and makes it so it’s not just repeating the same loop over. It varies the music. All of their newer pieces allow you to alter the actual instrument groups. You can set a mood of dialogue by selecting a preset (you can also modify the presets even further) and your music is quieter during the dialogue with reduced guitar or drums and is back to business afterwards. This has been a great tool for us and adds a lot to the feel of the media.

You also do not have to worry about licensing or royalties because the music comes royalty-free at a pretty affordable price. If you need a cue sheet to prove what you use-SonicFire will output it for you with the length, the time the audio came in and who is the composer and publisher. This is great for legal purposes.

You can also use SonicFire for sound effects, they have really high quality sound effects, and you can add hits to your music like cymbal crashes, drums, etc.

The program has an immense database of songs and you can always look for another piece of music if something doesn’t fit your project. The library keeps growing every month and are always high quality pieces. There is also a wide variety of music types and choices. The music never seems cheap to me and some people have asked me how I got such a high quality and customized piece of music on our budget.

I have some tools that are essential to my everyday production of video and audio files. One such tool is The Levelator, This tool takes the audio that I produce and levels it out. So the dialogue isn’t too low or the music isn’t too loud and makes everything sound more enjoyable. This has been a tool we used for all of our SuperBug Take 2 episodes and other different projects. This has to be one of the simplest tools I’ve ever used and I get great results from it! Plus, it’s free!

Do you know how hard it is to bring radio programs into the 21st century? I’ll tell you, it’s darn near impossible somedays! Outstanding Otters Radio Productions has been working for the past year to bring all of it’s properties online and it’s not been easy. First we lost all of our archives on some of our radio programs, like The DJ Max Morning Show and My Life As An Incredible Eater, when we switched our archival process from being recorded on cassettes to being digitally recorded. We also ran into some licensing and contract issues with some of our show contracts and had to drop shows like The Outdated Technology Radio Show when the host refused to stop taking telegraph messages.

Then there’s the issue of filming and editing a podcast for each program. The head of our podcast division, Edgar Durden, accidentally deleted ALL of our video files that we had recorded and edited over the past year. Needless to say, he’s been fired. We have hired David A. Nevius as the head of our podcast division and you may know him as the person behind famous podcasts such as: LonelyGuy25, This Canadian Life, That Week In Technology, The Footage Show (got bought out by The Clip Show), NerdBrief.TV and The 7 O’Clock News. He has had extensive experience in producing podcasts and will be a valuable asset to our team.

We apologize for the delay in bringing you Outstanding Otters Radio Productions programs to the Internet. We are hoping to start launching some of our new online entities next week. Until then, Keep Listening And Keep Being Outstanding!
